Hi.

I'm Kendra, and I'm here to help you be a genius about the things that matter and lazy about the things that don't. Welcome to your people.

The Daily Discipline of Rest

The Daily Discipline of Rest

We have the best intentions to simplify the holidays: to say no, stay home, open our doors to people without pretense or an attitude to impress, bake and decorate without losing our minds. All beautiful, worthwhile things.

I'm still tired though, are you?

When I feel the need to recharge, I assume a weekend away is the answer. Sometimes it is, but usually it means I'm ignoring the daily discipline of rest.

Sleep. Read. Flip through a magazine. Take a walk that isn't about sweating. We all have something that makes us feel more like ourselves when it's over, so do that thing every day.

Having lived both ways - going hard until I ran out of gas and being purposeful about gently recharging every day - I can confidently tell you that rest is never a waste. Ever.

As you give your family permission to take it slow during the holidays, give yourself permission to rest in whatever manner suits your soul the best. Exercising that muscle daily will fill you up in ways the occasional weekend away never will.

Even though I will never turn down a weekend away CAN I GET AN AMEN.

How would you like to practice the daily discipline of rest?
