Who's Our Favorite Matt?

There's a lot in the world that looms dark and heavy. It feels hopeless, like we need to start over somehow, an Etch-a-Sketch that just needs a good shaking. Of course I'm all for engaging in hard discussions, in loving where we've had little practice before, and for walking into the dark and heavy with hope.

But sometimes? You need to laugh at stupid stuff. And that's what we're going to do. Today, we're going to vote on our favorite famous Matt. I know. And we're going to vote on other famous names every Friday for the next few weeks. At the end, we might even have a final throwdown with all of the winners.

This stuff isn't going to create itself, y'all. Let's make room for a laugh with stupid fun that 100% doesn't matter.

Let's choose our favorite Matt.

(And disclaimer, there will be an entirely different week with just Matthew's. It's a ripe name.)

Matt Bomer

Why We Love Him

Umm, he's fiiiine with eyes that are so hot they could melt the sun?!

Where We've Seen Him

Early adopters know him from Chuck after which he got more traction on the USA show White Collar. Then he took his clothes off in Magic Mike, and that's all she wrote. Bonus: he's playing Montgomery Clift in a biopic. Possibly the best casting of anything in the history of the world.

Matt Czuchry

Why We Love Him

He's got that grin, man. It's dangerous.

Where We've Seen Him

Obvs, Gilmore Girls. And even though he's not as amazing as Jess, he sure is a mess better than Dean.

A lot of you know him from his recent run on The Good Wife (which I had to abandon... sorry, Alicia), and apparently he was likable enough in that show to make some people more Team Logan than you might have been before. You can test that allegiance when he shows up in the new Gilmore Girls limited series amen.

Matt Damon

Why We Love Him

Umm, BECAUSE HE'S MATT FREAKING DAMON. Spoiler: he's my favorite Matt. Just so you know. We love him because he's so likable and seems like a regular nice guy. And of course he's hot (I'm basically in love with him), but as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler said one year hosting the Globes, in that room, Matt is "basically a garbage person."

Where We've Seen Him

Pretty sure everything? He's in two of the most splashy movie franchises with Oceans and all the Jason Bourne stuff. He was my favorite Liz Lemon boyfriend on 30 Rock. His acting has been nominated for an Oscar three times with The Martian, Invictus, and Good Will Hunting. He blew my mind going off-type in The Departed and The Talented Mr. Ripley. He's my favorite Matt. Maybe he's yours, too!

Matt Dillon

Why We Love Him

I think anybody who's been acting for several decades has a certain endearing quality because he grows up with you. He's in movies that are in theaters when major things happen in your life. I mean, he's Matt Dillon! He might not be the most warm and fuzzy Matt, but we still love the edge.

Where We've Seen Him

I first saw in The Outsiders which changed my life. It was the first time I'd seen that many hot dudes in one place, and I couldn't take it. Confession: I would pause the video tape, take a photo of the screen (especially when Rob Lowe showed up),  get the film developed, and tape the highly overexposed photos to my wall. This is what celebrity crushing looked like before the Internet.

Matt did a dozen films after The Outsiders and before There's Something About Mary, and then he surprised us all with his cringe-worthy performance in Crash. Sure, the movie itself was a little overrated, but he was so good in it. Now, you can see him in the television sci-fi drama Wayward Pines.

Matt Lauria

Why We Love Him

Every character I've ever seen him play made me smile. Granted, that was only two characters, but STILL. He's adorable.

Where We've Seen Him

I've seen him in Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, two of the greatest shows known to man, and it was fantastic in both. He never got top play like a Tim Riggins or a Mark Cyr, but we always root for him. Now, he's in a show called Kingdom about MMA fighters, and he's ripped and tatted up and why am I not watching this show?! P.S. He's been married for ten years. Isn't that weird? Doesn't it seem like he should be 23 years old forever?

Matt Leblanc

Why We Love Him

I always loved him because he's Joey! Why wouldn't you love him! And then I saw him on an episode of The Graham Norton Show and just fell hard. He's so chill as Matt, and his voice is really deep and gravelly... yeeeeeah, he's really hot. And funny. And has gray hair. Oh my gosh.

Where We've Seen Him

Friends. Of course. Then he tried to do the Joey spinoff, and that busted. But rather than pull a Matthew Perry and try so hard to do something different, he leaned into it and is a hit as a fictionalized version of himself on the Showtime series Episodes. He's also the new host of Top Gear. So if you want to watch him ride around in sports cars, the universe has answered you.

Matt Smith

Why We Love Him

Frankly, I can't speak to this one much, but because he plays the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, I feel like I must include him.

Where We've Seen Him

In Doctor Who. Again, that's all I've got.

Voting is now closed! Damon won.
