Reading is my favorite hobby, hands down. Every month, I make my way through a stack of books. Some I love, some I like just fine, and some I’m very happy to return to the shelf forever.
At the end of each month, I round them all up in The Book List. It’s one tidy email with every book I finished, the title and author, a quick thought or two, a simple rating, and what I’m thinking about picking up next.

Vacationland by John Hodgman
I found a signed copy of this at a used bookstore for four dollars, and I am keeping it forever. John Hodgman is a comedian and most recognizable as "PC" in those old Mac commercials with Justin Long. This is a memoir of home, and it is funny, poignant, and surprising. I absolutely loved it.

A Rebellion of Care by David Gate
David Gate (along with Kate Baer) made me love poetry, and this, his first published collection of poems, is positively ridiculous. He sent me an early copy to see if I might endorse it (I did with bells on), and I kept illegally screenshotting poems and sending them to friends. It's masterful, beautiful, human, and just what we need right now.

This book was a wild time. I wanted there to be about half the amount of setup, almost quitting twice, but I really wanted to see what happened. I'm glad I read it, but this book isn't for everybody.

The Colony by Annika Norlin
This is "weird little book" adjacent, and I loved it so much.
A woman burns out after an adult life of hustling after the next thing, and she goes into the woods to try and get herself back. But the story isn't really about her.
Sparse, a little dark, mysterious, deeply human, and oh so good.
